DataSpace’s Media Vault has been designed in line with the requirements of BS4783-8:1994 and PD5454:2012, which is the British Standard for the Storage and Transportation of Media devices.
Media Storage Vault
The specially designed Media Storage Vault is the perfect environment to store media devices including:
- Backup Tapes, LTO Tapes, DLT Tapes and DAT Tapes
- Disks, CD’s and DVD’s
- Microfiche, Microfilm and Aperture Cards
- USB sticks
- Hard Drives
- Computer Equipment
Changes to Temperature and Relative Humidity in the environment used for storage of media tapes, media devices, microfilm/fiché can be detrimental to the data.
Changes in temperature can cause severe damage to media devices and legacy data items. Changes in temperature can cause film to shrink and become brittle. High humidity and moisture in the environment can cause media devices to become unusable, and data difficult or impossible to retrieve.
The Media Vault is environmentally controlled, in line with the recommendations within PD5454:2012 (13 C – 20 C and 35% -60% RH). Air temperature within the Media Vault is maintained between 16 and 20 Celsius and relative humidity (RH) between 40 and 60 RH. The environmental system is of a modular design which is equipped with an alarm response if the environmental parameters are breached.
DataSpace’s Media Vault is located within an onsite highly secure archive facility. Its construction is fully reinforced with steel door access that is equipped with biometric keypad entry, coupled with CCTV monitoring of the access area. Entry to the vault is restricted to authorised personnel only, with details of individual access logged.
The site and Media Vault are equipped with the following:-
- Internal and external digital CCTV recording systems
- Electronic fob and Passcode entry access to access points
- Direct link to 24 hour external monitoring station
- Palisade fencing encapsulating the site
- Environmentally maintained facilities
- Restricted Access
- Site located in a low crime area
- Site not located on a flood plain or underneath a flight path
Media Tape Rotation Services
Many organisations utilise back-up tapes as part of their Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity protocols. To ensure compliance to Disaster Recovery protocols, back-up tapes are often required to be stored at a different premises to that of the organisation. DataSpace are able to store back-up tapes securely in our specially designed Media Back-up Tape Vault.
To compliment the storage back-up tapes, DataSpace are able to implement a scheduled Back-up Tape Rotation programme service and provide secure collection and delivery by our very own fleet of vehicles and drivers.
In addition to scheduled services DataSpace can provide urgent and out of hours rotation, retrieval, and collection services. All back-up tapes are affixed a unique barcode and items are scanned and tracked, providing you with a full audit trail and item history.
