The Information Commissioners Office are the UK’s independent authority who uphold the rights of the general public in respect of their personal information under the Data Protection Act and accessing official information under the Freedom of Information Act.  The Information Commissioner Christopher Graham unveiled last week the ICO’s plan for 2014-2017!

The ICO’S plan for the next three years is named ‘Looking ahead, staying ahead’ and is centered around ‘five Es’ that are… Capture
• Educate
• Empower
• Enforce
• Enable
• Engage

The Information Commissioner Christopher Graham said:

“These changes are about getting better results, both for consumers and for data controllers.  That means learning from the individual cases and concerns brought to our attention, and concentrating on where we spot systematic problems.
There’s a focus to on working with others, both in encouragement and in developing privacy seals, so that the ICO is not seen as the first and last defense for compliance and legislation.”
