The world as we knew it has been changed forever. And it doesn’t look like it will be returning to how we used to live and work anytime soon, if ever.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing. We have adapted and changed the way we work, socialise and shop. And in many instances, we are successfully collaborating and communicating better than ever! Without the work commute and constant hecticness of our ‘NORMAL’ lives we have time to enjoy our friends and family more. Many organisations are even seeing heightened levels of productivity from employees who are working from home.
This week we see the extension of face coverings being mandatory in England to include shops and supermarkets, as well as on public transport. Many workplaces are also asking employees returning to the workplace or maybe that have worked during the entire pandemic period to wear a face covering. We’ve all seen the debates online, about the pros and cons and whether this is something that should’ve been introduced 5 months ago or that shouldn’t be introduced at all. This got us at DataSpace discussing the implications and how we can make sure we are doing the best thing by our clients and our employees.
DataSpace are a Disability Confident employer, and with this we understand that for many face coverings are not just a protective measure or a slight annoyance. For many, face coverings will be yet another massive obstacle in their everyday life. The inability to not see a person’s mouth, and not be able to lip read will be significant. During this time when communication is so important, we must try to enable those without hearing or loss of hearing as much as possible.
With this in mind we are asking our clients that if you are operating a face covering policy to let us know.
This will help us with a number of things;
- we can make sure our delivery operative is confident they can carry out the required service although they might not be able to see peoples mouths,
- we can make our operatives aware that the issued PPE-face covering is required at your site,
- lastly if you require our delivery operatives to wear a face covering with a transparent mouth section (to assist with lip reading) we can make sure these are issued to the driver servicing your account.
As time goes by we are seeing the implementation of more, and the relaxation of some COVID 19 safety measures. Please keep us informed with any changes, so we can ensure that at all times we comply with your policies and your COVID safe operations.
